Chrome catch missing on 1800S quarterlight
Hi
The chrome catch has been missing off the driver's quarter light window since I bought my 1969 1800S. As a result it doesn't close and it now needs to be attended to. I'm not having much luck finding either a catch or, better still, a replacement window and frame. I've posted it in this forum's Wants and contacted some secondhand parts suppliers but no responses so thought I would place it here too. Annoyingly I have two replacements for the passenger side. A question relating to this is: has anyone here taken the quarter light glass out of its frame? It looks like a risky business and I don't want to break the glass. Thanks Simon |

Hi,
Unfortunately I can't help with your search for a catch or quarter window, but something that may be useful as you continue searching if you aren't already aware? A quarter window from an 1800ES will not fit an 1800S, the ES one is slightly taller to fit the different roofline of the sports estate. 20 years ago when I restored my ES the right hand quarter window hinge was broken, fortunately a near neighbour had bought a complete ES window assembly for his S, only to discover it was too big, so I was able to buy it from him. He subsequently found a proper one after much searching (no ebay in those days!). As for removing the glass, it must be possible as my neighbour dismantled his when sending the frames off for re-chroming. Hope this helps, Paul. |
