Default Another Bluetooth Question - Media Streaming edition

Are people able to navigate through tracks etc from their iPod on the cars interface?

I have been able to play my iPod through the car, however only through selecting the media on the iPod itself

Yep, use the steering wheel controls, work a treat.

I assume that you have the iPod connected to the USB interface?

I think that the iPod interface is unavailable when connected to the the car - can check in the morning, but I am sure someone else will have confirmed by then

Nope, I was trying to use the Bluetooth as opposed to the lead, as I only have 2 and was hoping to keep one in the computer and one by my bed for charging

Why don't you squander 99p and get a cable - sound quality is better also - hardly going to break the bank

I can only speak for XC60s with Sensus. You can stream music (and App sounds) from an iPod Touch to the car over Bluetooth but the display will not show track details (it displays "Track"). You can also step forward or backward to the next/previous track using the steering wheel controls, but no other track navigation is possible.

As wimorrison says, sounds quality won't be on a par with the USB connection since Bluetooth A2DP uses lossy compression. But then again it may not be so noticeable in a car.

What I was wondering is whether you can still use the apps on an iPod Touch / iPhone while it is plugged in to the USB interface. When I text drove an XC60 I plugged my iPhone in to test the music playing capabilities and the iPhone's screen was blanked out with a message saying something like "connected."

What I didn't try was to push the home button and then try and use an app like the TomTom navigation app on the iPhone while playing it was playing music via the USB interface.

Is this possible, or does Volvo's system effectively disable the ability for other apps to be used while the iphone/touch is playing music through USB?

Thanks!

Cheers, that's exactly what I experience, guess I will have to be swapping cables (edit-or having read Wi's post, just buy a cable! Durrrrr)

Ta, I thought they would be loads.

I have even gone as far as spending an extra £1 to get a more official looking (although obviously still hookie) iPhone 4 one!
