Unhappy Faulty CEM unit

Hi
After 4 hours of diagnostics my main dealer has informed me that my CEM needs to replaced at a cost of £875 plus software and fitting. Have asked at an electronics specialist who tells me the part is non-repairable and can be supplied from Volvo only - the car is 6mths outside of warranty. Needless to say in these credit crunch times I winced at the price - does anybody have any ideas? is there a pre-owned market in electronic bits??

If it's only just out of warranty then it may be worth a call to Volvo customer services to see if they'll meet some / all of the cost as a goodwill gesture.

Was there not a modification to some soldered joints I think on CEM by Volvo. I may be wrong regards what the mod was for, but a search around forum somewhere will find a link to list of modifications.

You might get some helpful info there.
