Default flat battery

I've got a 51 plate 2.0TS. I've often got to pull over somewhere and have lunch in the car and would like to have the radio on. But listening to the radio for anything over 30 minutes drains the battery completely! Surely a car of this spec should be able to let you listen to a radio without disabling the whole car!. The dealer isn't surprised by this but I sure as hell am. Anybody else have this problem.

When we are servicing cars we have to leave the autos in neutral so we can get them on the ramp, if there on there for any lengh of time then its a common thing that the battery will be flat when we have finished especially if we leave stuff like radio and interior fan on.

There is room in the boot for alot bigger battery but not sure how much longer a bigger battery would last.

I'm surprised that the battery is going flat in 30 mins - I had the radio on all day whilst preparing my car (51 plate 2.0tSE) for last year's BKV and it took until then for the battery to go flat....as I discovered when I tried to start the car....... Is your battery charging properly?

Like the S80, when the ignition is on (accessory position) to power the radio, some of the cars computer systems are also activate. They will run the battery down giving at least a low battery warning by half an hour. I think its the same for most other models now. Ideally ofcourse, Volvo would have some system of being able to turn just the radio on without powering anything else (perhaps just with keys in ignition?).

Thanks for the reponse folks. The charging system and battery have all been checked out and are OK. It's a bit annoying when you compare it to a 1967 Ford Anglia that I can stick in a garage in September and which starts again in April. What if I'd chosen the DVD package to keep the kids amused? Volvo must modify the electrics in some way to allow that to be used without draining the battery.

I'll just need to either burn more fuel or take shorter lunch breaks!

Cheers.
