Default Spare Key

Just taken delivery of my XC60 SE Lux and according to the car info there should be two keys, however the dealer has only ever had one key. Any ideas where i stand in trying to locate the missing key given all the rules around GDPR. I don't like the thought of there being a spare key for my vehicle out there somewhere aside from the fact that I will be buggered if the only key gets lost

If a volvo dealer has sold you a car it is part of the deal to have 2 keys , this will have been picked up on their pre sales inspection , It is his duty to supply you a second key and erase the lost one ..as you say , worrying that there is a key out there somewhere which will enable your car to be easily stolen , and it is vital to have 2 as the car is useless unless you have a working key .

Well, two keys are something to be expected when you purchase a car.
However, to be sure (and for safety of mind), you may check how many keys are registered to your vehicle. Go to MyCar settings, and somewhere down in menu, (Information -> Number of keys), you'll see how many keys are registered.
If there is only one, then you're on safe side (meaning there is no second key that can be used to stole your car).
If there are more than one, then, as a temporary measure - until you get hold of the second key, ask dealer to unregister all keys from your car, and then to register just the key you have.

BR

P.S. Before unregistering keys from car, double check with dealer do you have all information needed to register key again. It won't do to unregister working key and then to find out that you're missing some code/information needed for registration...

Thanks for the reply however it wasn't a Volvo dealer rather an independent. I asked the question and was given the GDPR rules as an excuse for them not being able to help

Go to a Volvo dealer get them to code you another key. GDPR doesn’t remove the previous keepers details from the log book does it......
