Default Volvo 850 Tailgate Wiring Harness

Folks,

Anyone breaking an 850 estate?

I require a tailgate wiring loom, if possible, for my ‘95 850 T-5 estate.

This passes from the car body through the tailgate hinge and into the tailgate.

I’m looking to return it to the road, however the centre (3rd) brake light doesn’t work. I replaced the tailgate a couple of years ago, and possibly damaged the wiring loom (or the wiring loom was damaged on the old tailgate).

I’m unsure if a V70 loom would fit, but if anyone has one, I’d love to buy one.

Thanks,

Joe

Hej Joe,

I am breaking a 98 V70 I. The tailgate went to my 850, but the wiring harness is still in the elk. When installing the tailgate with the harness of the 850, I could not find any difference. The only question is, where is the harness connected? Cannot just cut it off.

Hej hej Gernot

Hi there,

Many thanks for your reply, when the wiring harness passes through from the body of the car into the tailgate, it branches out for the brake light, the central locking solenoid, and the rear wiper motor. If you take the interior cover off, you will see where it attaches.

Thanks again,

Joseph

Hej Joseph,

well, I know, where the harness ends in the tailgate. I removed it from there, as the tailgate went to my 850. I now need to know, as well as you, where it ends in the body. Well, please give me time till friday, to find out, then I got time to do this ( till then very early morningshift! )! When I got it out, I will make some pictures, so you can see, if it matches.

Hej hej Gernot

Hej Joseph,

got it out, was easier than I thought! Attached some pictures to compare. If you want it, I will cover the foam material parts with harness tape, to make it look nicer and for better protection, as these parts do not look nice anymore after 20 years.

Hey,,

Many thanks for your efforts! I've managed to get a wiring harness also from a 98 V70, and it appears that some of the wiring is different to that on my 850. Looking at your pictures, it looks identical to the one I picked from the V70, and the central brake light wiring (which I think is broken on mine) looks to be different - on the 850 it is a yellow plug, and on the V70 it appears to be a differently shaped black plug. Alas, I don't think it will fit my 850 now But thank you for your efforts and the time taken to remove it my friend, it's much appreciated

Hej Joseph,

no problem, my pleasure! I put it in my stock for the future, who knowes, may be I need it one day, or somebody else, reading this, has need for it and writes me a PM.
Ok, back to your problem. It is not a black plug, it is green! Well, the following diagram may help you (attached picture):

#1 go to the windowheating, left plus, right earth
#2 goes to the licenceplate
#3 goes to the wiper
#4 to central lock
and #5 goes to the breakelight! In this case it is green. Well, with the V70 I the 3. breaklight is on top of the window. And there was a upgrade for the 850 with a roofspoiler with breaklight. Both versions were LED, so this may mean, the wiring is different, but as long as the wiring fits, I would give it a try, and if the plug does not fit, just solder the old plug in the new harness, that should work!

Hej hej Gernot
