Default V60 - downsizing Wheels

Hello all

I wanted to ask if anyone had done the above?

My V60 which I do love came with 20" wheels and lowered "sport" chassis. I cover a lot of miles (circa 25k/year) and have read that downsizing wheels can:
1) increase fuel efficiency.
2) increase ride comfort.
3) decrease tyre replacement cost (can confirm - 17s or 18s are £30-50 cheaper).
4) decrease ride handling (I drive in eco half the time so not sure this would even be noticeable).
Edit:
5) decrease road tyre noise at higher speeds.

Has anyone had any experience of downsizing (2-3"s) and whether or not it was beneficial?

Ideally I'd want to go down to 17s. Could anyone see any potential issues with this?

Thanks all!

You should be ok with 17" on a D4- just pay attention to rim width/offset:

Thanks for your input.

I'm planning on going into Volvo to ask my options soon but just wanted to find out if anyone had any experience with this car especially!

I may want to do similar in the future. I've got a '67 plate D5 V90 R-Design Pro, on 20's, and I feel every bump and hear a constant humming on all but the smoothest of roads. Interested to hear how you get on. Good luck.

OK, feeling smug. Went for a Momentum on 17" wheels deliberately. Doing 25k miles pa, comfort is better than looks, and 17's are comfortable. The stupidest vehicles going are rangerovers on huge dustbin lid wheels with the thinnest rubber band tyres. Does make you wonder..............

As of this month new V60s are no longer available with 17" inch wheels, 18" is now the smallest size.

Thanks. Likely won't be for another couple months as figured I may as well wear down these tyres a bit, but I will report back with figures as well as what's possible once I know.

I got mine ex-demo so it was pretty fully equipped, was looking for a few specific options and this one fit the bill. I figured I can always downsize wheels but couldn't fit a sunroof, for example!

Glad to hear though that your comfort levels are great on the 17s. I test drove one with 17s and it was nice (Momentum Pro).

Oh really? Interesting if true. The website still allows for 17s to be configured (and standard on Momentum).

Momentum Pro here so standard 17’s, love the ride, not as nice visually but I prefer comfort over style these days! :-D

Don't write off the bigger wheels just yet. I had exactly the same concerns before I picked up my S90 ex demo which is also shod on 20s.

I've found that the ride quality is good - only the very roughest surfaces unsettle the car and its never crashy. Yes, they will cost a bit more when the tyres need replacing. But they look stunning and I know that I would miss them if I traded down for the 18s which were standard on my Inscription trim car
