Hiya,
I've got a p2 2003 v70 t5. I need to replace the altinator but I'm having trouble finding out if I need 120, 140 or 160 amp out put as euros sent me away the first time with one with one with a fixed pully not the clutch pully @120 amps
Thanks in advance

Have you tried simply looking at yours? The label is usually visible stating various info. If its visible but not readable, use your phone to take a picture of it!

Vida says that mine is 143 amps, but on a D5. If you have access to Vida though, it will likely help.

For the T5 you may go with a 160A to be safe, you'll need the model for 2001-2003, with a clutch pulley, look up on Fcpeuro.com site for the numbers, Bosch is a good replacement.

Whatever size you get, remember that the Volvo uses an intelligent alternator controller which is connected to the data bus and can regulate the alternator based on commands from the vehicle.

The alternator controller disconnects the alternator during engine cranking, and has temperature compensating voltage control.

A generic alternator will not work

VIDA contains a description of the controller.

This is correct, however I believe this type of intelligent regulators were used starting with the 2005 year models (pretty much at the same time as most other car makers). For this reason, the alternator part # is different from 2005-up compared with 2001-2004. The regulator has its own part number stamped on the regulator module itself (which sits under a plastic cover, however the number is visible without lifting the cover). This number is also visible to take a close up picture with the alternator still on the engine.

This site shows the numbers for both the regulator and the alternators (click the Fitment button)

Site note, I did use on my 2003 and alternator from a 2005-up. It did charge, how ever that charge never went past 13.5V, which is no enough to fully charge the battery. It cost me a new battery in the long term. I believe only the regulators are different, that alternator unit looks to be the same (depends however on the current output)
