Not just you Dave, most people think the N/A B200 is pretty gutless in the large models

Yes, I know for sure 760 mk1 V6 was available in other markets with M46 gearbox - not sure about mk2.

All those cars are as rare as hen's teeth. The Peugeots and Talbot are RWD. The Citroen (XM) and also the Renaults (30, 25, Safrane) are all FWD so those gearboxes would be no good but you could perhaps use the bell housings if they were detachable.

The easiest donor is the in-house one from it's predecessor - ironically the 260 V6 was available in the UK with a manual box right up until it was replaced by the 760.

Someone in VOC converted a mk1 saloon to manual although I don't know who. I remember seeing it at a national rally about 10 years ago. It had an M46 which I'm guessing came complete from a 260.

That advert for it is a few years old, dvla says it has been untaxed since 2004 so we know it went to Australia at some point but no clue as to what happened after.

I wonder if someone was inclined if you could cut the bell bellhousing off an auto a d get it welded to an M47 if it would work. But then you would need a flywheel from a donor car which would be a V6 260 manual which would have the gearbox anyway!

From the "Divvy-Laa-Laa" :

Date of last V5C (logbook) issued
24 June 2004

The tax became due (presumably surrendered) on 11/5/2004 and a new logbook was issued ~5-6 weeks later. My guess is it was MoT'd and taxed but the tax was surrendered when it was exported, despite the fact no Export Marker is showing.

The advert says it has been in storage for 12 years, that takes us to 2016 if it went straight into storage but i'd guess it was used a little before that. Makes the advert 5 years old at the most on this basis.

As for cutting the bellhousing off an M46/47, a bit drastic! eek:

I'd suggest having an adaptor plate made to bolt to the backplate on the engine so the bellhousing could bolt to that although i wonder if the backplates are in fact different on the V6 compared to the red block - something i've never looked at before but it's possible that the same bellhousing is used, maybe even the same clutch and flywheel.

Grrrrrr poxy internet is playing up again so i can't look up what else the gearbox assembly fits! Poxy rain! Maybe later if things dry up i can have a look although just managed to get a bit more info on the webpage i'm looking at :

Part Number: 1208661

Fits 240, 740, 760, 780, 940, 940 SE, 960

That's for the AW71 so it's possible (maybe even likely) that the manual box would be compatible with little or no modifications. More interesting stuff on the torque converter :

Part Number: 1239686

Fits 240, 740, 760, 780, 940, 940 SE, 960

The info is from volvopartswebstore and just managed to drag a bit more info kicking and screaming from it :

Part Number: 1208730

Volvo 240 1988, 1989, 1990
Volvo 740 1985, 1986, 1987, 1991, 1992
Volvo 740 2.3l Fuel Injected Turbo 1991, 1992
Volvo 760 1985, 1986, 1987
Volvo 940 1991, 1992, 1993
Volvo 940 2.3l Fuel Injected 1991
Volvo 940 2.3l Fuel Injected Turbo 1991, 1992, 1993
Volvo 940 SE 2.3l Fuel Injected Turbo 1991, 1992
Volvo 960 1992
Volvo 960 3.0l 6 cylinder Fuel Injected 1993

Got the list of fitments this time - all for the M47 box!

I'll leave it at that, save to say anyone thinking of converting a V6 to manual should do their own research and satisfy themselves of the compatibility before shelling out their hard-won funds!

Of course, if you knew someone with a scrap V6 engine, you could try hanging a 940 M47 box on the back of it......................

I shall do just that when my mate pulls the B280 from the 760, I'll see if the M47 in my garage will fit on it.
