Default Vida dice help / optional extras install

Hi all,
I've just purchased a v50 d5. And want to install a coupe of options extras which the car doesn't have. Firstly is the autodimming compass rear view mirror. According to the link here it says vida needs to calibrate it... So if I bought an ebay mirror and found a local vida guru to map it, all would work? Sames goes for the trip computer and reversing sensors?

You can buy Vida Dice hardware from ebay and download the software for free, it will be very useful in the future
However, you can not install new software with it. For that you need to visit Volvo dealer. So after you add the mirror, just visit a dealer.

So a local (non volvo) garage with vida /dice wouldn't be able to calibrate the mirror. Or get the stereo to work alongside some volvo park assist sensors & module.

Cant see volvo wanting to calibrate the mirror if bought used and installed by myself

Don’t know about the V50, however the V70 has the main security module built into the mirror (Upper Electrical Module or UEM) which can only be swapped with a brand new one from Volvo, I enquired about 6 years ago and a replacement was £400 +software back then.

Like I say, that was on the S60/V70 platform, however you’ve need to carefully check to see if this is the case on the V50.

Almost anything on our cars that is add-on require visit to dealership, sorry, get used to it :/ Trip computer for sure, it also needs software package so you need to "buy" software from volvo and they need to upload it to your car. Parking sensor may just require adding them by Vida (kinda to "learn" the car that it has it) but also possible it require additional software. Mirror with compass - no clue. Auto dimming is connected to main unit and it "knows" when its dark or not, but not sure if its routed trough software or just simply using the same sensor. Compass? no clue, never seen one. But I wouldnd be surprised if software is required.
So even if you get Vida+Dice yourself, you most likely wont be able to add those things yourself unless you have access/subscription to volvo servers.

Auto dimming mirror won't need any VIDA/DICE updates or installs. It's plug and go.

The wiring for the mirror will be taped down to the inside of the headliner, took me a bit to find but it's for sure up there.

I got a couple of quotes from maindealer today.

Autodimming mirror with compass £354. Not too bad I guess

Trip computer £ circa,700!

Polestar for v50 d5 auto £745... Very tempting!

I asked if about vida and as mentioned you have to buy software to download which allows you (local indi) to make these extras work.

It's a clever way to manage their upgrades/options!

Autodimming Mirror does not require software added, look at pages 77-78 in Owners Manual to see how to calibrate Compass ...
