Centre console - am I missing something.
Hi,
My 2006 V50 has 2 cupholders in the centre console, should there be any kind of cover over this area, or are the just normally open? My old V70 had a sliding cover over them. Anyone got any pics of their centre console, and any mods that might be of interest? G. |

Surely an easy upgrade though

Is this the 2 black rubber rings with the felt 'tabs' fixings?
If so yes they just sit there looking at you, they are THE worst excuses for cup holders and in 11 years I've never used them. There was a revision around 2008 when the handbrake was given a funky shape and there was some kind of box/cover for the centre console area. I think you can retrofit the later stuff but the handbrake is a PITA if I recall....

The slidy cover in my facelift S40 I never use (always open) so wouldnt miss it.
I liked it in my S60 though, as it had walnut slats with a solid metal handle. On S40 whole thing is just a black plastic (boo). |

Pre-facelift S40/V50 cars (2004-2007) have no sliding cover over the cupholders. Facelift (2007-) do.

Centre console is completely different. Nothing's impossible but I'd say it wouldn't be easy as the handbrake assembly is in there and it differs too.
Old console Newer console

as said above no cover until the facelift 08 and on
you Can change for the facelift one, it Will involve removal of welded mounting points for the existing one,, and a lot of aggro best option find the "box" version that replaces the "cup holders" ,, be prepared to find That or worse level of disgusting mess under the "cup holder" ,, Do clean it properly ,, fit a nice "box shaped cubby hole with rubber base" that Also does not have the holes in it to allow such disgusting grim and germ factory to happen below it
