Default Intermittent boot opening even after replacing wiring loom

Noticed my boot started not opening reliably last week, so having seen many an article about the boot not opening over the years I realised my S40 had probably finally succumed to the wiring loom becoming frayed.

Replaced it today but the boot seems to only open about 10% of the time, so I'm just wondering what I should be looking to change next? I've cleaned all the contacts in the handle switch as well as taking off the lock mechanism and greasing it as best I can. The numberplate lights work.. But then tried it again after a short car journey and the boot opened fine 5 times in a row :S

I didn't entirely waste my time though, as you can see from the pictures the loom was on the way out anyway.

=

Cheers.

Now you know the loom is good, the next most likely suspect is the switch. You could either test it using a multimeter assuming you can find a wiring diagram or take the plunge and get a replacement switch.

This is what I'm thinking so, is it still likely to be the switch rather than the lock mechanism if the numberplate lights are working?

The power supply to the unit is good, because you've changed the loom and the lights work, but the switch bit might be failing to complete the circuit to release the lock mechanism.

Yeah that might explain it being intermittent, I'll lookup price of the part.

Yeah seen their shop on eBay selling for under £30, I'll phone FRF on Monday and check their price. Probably the best option first, lock mechanisms seem more expensive.

Currently waiting for the micro switch to arrive from Caffyns. I'll update with results once it's been swapped out on the car.
