Hello !

We still get sub-zero temps and snow here in continental Europe and have to use winter tyres. Hybrid tyres just about do but they are not winter tyres,

In the summer we switch to a harder compound which gives more grip, Hybrid tyres sound like a Starsky and Hutch soundtrack above 20C.

Hence, my comment about temperate intermediate tyres.

Are you sure? I could be mistaken, it has been known, but I was under the impression that soft compound gave better grip?

Edit to say,You are correct. Have done some more research. Hysteresis is the answer! Winter tyres are softer compound which will give good grip in summer but will last just nanoseconds.

Anyone had them on their P3 Volvo? I'm particularly interested in the noise, as the current Continentals transmit a huge amount of road noise!
Never heard of them but there are some reviews on tyre reviews website maybe helpful, https://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Search/Riken

To add to the tyre review site the Riken summer tyre reports were not positive with poor handling and wet performance.

UHP seems a lot better than the Maystorm 2

I run Scorpions on my Freelander, very good tyre and hard wearing. I’d recommend em anytime.

A quick look at Blackcircle and based on a 19 inch wheel / tyre the Riken UHP was 100 GBP vs 116 or 119 for a one of the more trusted brands Kuhmo was in there i had them on an A8 and can vouch for them also had Goodyear 119GBP. It's a small price difference for peace of mind. Not sure of your tyre size but pro rata it should not be a great difference.

TT Scorpions are getting good reviews for wear and all rond performance they also have the All Season version the Verde? which is getting reasonable reviews. Not as good as the Cross Climates but reflected in the price saving.

I'm on 18"s, but thanks for the comparison.

My interest in Rikens is because I can get a pair of (ex-display) UHPs for £108 delivered. If someone with a P3 had fitted them and suffered nightmares then I'd want to avoid them, otherwise I think I'll give them a go!

Thanks to all

I’m running Nexen on the Front and Sumitomo on the rears. My car lives on a terrace street so the tyre walls are hammered therefore I run mid range tyres. I never have any issues with em to be honest and I’ve always found that with mid range tyres.
