My problem with this has always been that putting a quality system into what is essentially a box consisting primarily of hard plastic and glass surfaces which will then be rolled down a bumpy road and subjected to all the harmonics and sound intrusion and distortion that brings is hardly harmonious to getting the best sound stage out of anything.

It gets you a woofer though, so people you pass on the street can think that you are some kind of teenage hoody hoodlum as you pass them by boom-booming as you go.

Really? You spent your money on a beautiful car like S90 just to become a hoodie?

Having said that, pumping up the volume and bass are entirely optional, but not recommended unless one really wants to enter one's fifties wearing hearing aids. Contrary to the impression I may have given, I do like music from a quality sound system, but baulk at the prices car manufacturers now charge for branded systems extra on top of standard systems. I might consider £800 at a push, especially if the standard system were crap and was transformed by it. But £3000 is taking the pish big-time. As I write this I'm listening to Christelle Berthon playing A Taste Of Jamiroquai on YouTube through a Bose speaker system. That will do me nicely, not too loudly, in my nice relaxed and otherwise quiet environment.
