Default 940 Celebration Estate brakes overhaul

I've reached the time where I need to have the brakes completely overhauled on the 940 Celebration. Soft brake pedal (probably old fluid) and I last changed the discs and pads over 15 years ago on the advice of the previous owner.

Anyway my question for the group is this: If I need new pads and discs is it worth upgrading to drilled and vented discs or do you consider the standard discs as adequate for the road?

What are your opinions please?

TIA

Shaun

How modified is your 940? If it is standard then the original brakes are more than up to the job.

Mine is running about 200hp and the original brakes are still fine.

I would highly recommend brembo followed by pagid, make sure to remove the sliding pins, clean them up and regrease them using silicone grease, also grease the contact points where the back/edges of the pads touch the calipers (not on the friction material!).

I wouldn't use Volvo ones myself as they are made in China now.

360 Beast

Its pretty much standard, although I fitted a MBC a few years ago.

Standard brakes seem to have done well for me in the past, so with new fluid I hope to get a real hard pedal...

I did this with my diesel 940 after it failed it’s MOT on a binding NSF brake. Brembo discs and pads all round, and one refurbed caliper. The difference was remarkable. Super hard pedal and you can stand the car on its nose in any conditions now. The standard brakes are excellent, with a refresh they’re all you’ll need. I often tow a heavy trailer with the car loaded and do long journeys with it in that state, and the brakes are more than capable of coping with that by a long way!

On my 1996 940 LPT I replaced the front brakes.

I went with Brembo disks but Pagid pads as Brembo out of stock.

I also installed a new caliper and slide pins and fitting kit.

Bled the brakes but need to bleed more to replace all of the old brake fluid.

Replaced as 5 year old eicher premium disks had warped.

James.

I wouldn't bother with drilled and grooved, I have had problems with vibration from them, no great benefit on the track either, they just introduce weaknesses.

Pads and disks are unlikely to be the problem. You will need to check out the sliders, pistons and condition of the flexis, and yes fluid should have been changed a long time ago.

If you are finding brake fade, with 15yo unchanged brakes, then basic servicing will provide significant improvement, after that go for uprated pads (Eg Ferordo 2500) and change fluid once a year.

Are there any tips or tricks to flushing brake fluid with our ABS system?
