Preventative maintenance recommendations
2015 XC60 D5 geartronic just turned 77k miles - Hoping to keep this car for the long haul so for peace of mind I've just done oil & filter, air filter and cabin filter myself (all genuine Volvo parts) oh fuel filter and aux belt tensioner have been done too. So wondering what to tackle next - thinking Haldex/diff/angle gear fluids and maybe gearbox flush too?
Question is how many individual fluid changes are needed on the AWD system? Am I right in thinking that there are 4 separate fluid reservoirs and hence jobs to tackle here specifically for...
and in which order would you guys recommend I prioritise these? Thanks in anticipation. |

I'am with you there.
Go with the haldex first. I bet it's never been done! Relatively easy. After doing a lot of reading we are advised to do it every 35k. I managed to change fluids in the haldex and main gearbox but failed to do angle and rear diff due to the fact that the 12v pump I used did not have a pipe with the correct small! diameter to get to the bottom of both boxes to extract the oils. When you find out what diameter pipe is needed, I get one. Regards Last edited by Adrian B; Aug 11th, 2022 at 13:22. |

I'd also go in this order:
Haldex Gearbox Diff and Angle gear

Just done the Haldex. Fluid was £20 from dealer and I got one of these from Screwfix which worked a treat...
https://www.screwfix.com/p/handy-par...kit-1ltr/27283 So Haldex service around £30 DIY (wonder how much the dealer would charge). Angle gear and diff next. Think I might leave the gearbox to the professionals though and find a specialist with an EDT machine to do the full flush in one go. |

I'am really interested when you succeed in emptying the angle and rear diff box as regards to the O/D, the material of the vacuum pipe and actual removal pump.
It beat me up to now. Regards |

Anyone ever heard of any 'pump learn' process being needed on Volvos after Haldex fluid changes? Mentioned here for VW/Audi with Haldex 5...
https://www.haldexrepairs.co.uk/gene...-repair-guide/ Just wondering if I need the dealer to run some VIDA adaptations now that I've renewed the fluid. |

Inspect turbo and inlet pipework
Flush sunroof drain lines (if you have a sunroof) Nourish the leather seats with a decent cream Brake fluid every 2 years Change coolant as per the volvo schedule Check for water in the front foot wells

Does anyone know a gearbox specialist who can do this for my 65-plate XC90 in the vicinity of South Yorkshire (Rotherham), a full and proper gearbox flush, I'm aware the difference this can make to auto boxes as I've had it done on previous cars (all those places have now gone). Interesting about the other 3 oil replacement locations, I'll have a look and see if I can find how-to's for them.
