Default XC70 EGR Help

I'm having problems with my XC70 D5 Euro 4, it has randomly shown a warning message of "engine system service required" for a couple of weeks, and then last week it went in to limp mode.
So I took it to a independent Volvo specialist who put it on his diagnostic which came back with injector 4 and EGR and 02 Sensor.
So my friend at work who is an ex mechanic changed the injector, and cleared the faults but it came back on and lost power again.
So today he removed and cleaned all of the pipes going in and out of the EGR and cleaned all around the butterfly inside the valve.
He also noticed a loose Turbo Hose with an splitting orange seal inside which he sealed and tightened everything up.
So he took it for a drive and noting came on and power was normal.
When I got in to the car to drive home the light came on at its usual spot which is around 10 mins driving and around 5 miles driving from work at motorway speeds.

Not sure if it's the same fault , but mine had the same symptoms , proved to be the position sensor on the top of the egr valve faulty ( common fault on d5 engines ) not sure how you'd test it though
