S60 Alternator
Hi whilst looking for a new motor for my 2004 d5 163 I have been offered a 2005 163 D5 with 44000 (forty four thousand) miles from new in a very nice dark green with cream leather. anyway there is a problem with it apparently the alternator failed and they replaced it with a cheap one from a motor factor and it wont work due to a chip or something missing from the new one. is this right. there is a fault code on the display if I buy the correct one from Volvo will it cure the problem.

From Volvo £££
Get Bosch online from sites like Fcpeuro. Be sure to order the right one for that year

The difference is in the output to small signal cable on the terminal marked L and having a red/white cable on a 2004 car and marked LIN and having a green/white cable on a 2005 car.
On a 2004 car I believe the output is just a standard voltage the same as the alternator output and seen by the CEM, but on the 2005 > cars its now a digital signal that's interpreted by the CEM. As you have found they are not interchangeable as the wrong output to the CEM on the signal cable results in error messages. |
