Help please!!
I'm looking to buy a used V40 and have received some conflicting advice as to which type I should go for. One person at Marshall's Volvo in Cambridge told me to avoid the Sport Lux as I wouldn't be doing high mileage yet another one told me it's not a problem! I've read in the Telegraph that particle build up is a problem if the car isn't doing high mileage. Can anybody shed any light on this please? I'd be doing average mileage and probably not a great deal of motorway driving - which engine size would be best, petrol/diesel etc etc.....
Thanks alot |

Hello and welcome to the forum.
My father had a 2.0 litre S40 which went and was fairly economical. I would go for as high a spec car I could get for the money. Friends of our had a 2.0 litre turbo V40 for 5 years and said it was the best car they ever owned and replaced it with a V50 which they do not rate as well as the V40.

Sport Lux is just a trim level, the engine to avoid is the 1.8i petrol Mitsubishi derived unit, not to be confused with the Volvo 1.8 petrol they are ok.
In my opinion the one to go for would be the 1'9 turbo diesel from 2002 on, this was the first common rail diesel to be used and is better than the older 'mechanical' diesel 1.9T. Paul.
