Default Suitable spare wheel (space saver)

Hi All,

I just had a blowout in my 2012 V70 due to a pothole the included gel with air pump kit didn't work at all. I was left stranded and it took 3 hrs for the RAC to be able to attend us for recovery!

I don't want that to happen again so I'm looking for another option!

From what I can see, the boot space will not fit a normal wheel, but I'm wondering If I can get a space saver wheel to fit? My local dealer will sell me one for £63 inc VAT, but they're being a bit non-commital on whether it will fit. I don't want to order one and then find that it won't!

Does anyone have experience with getting a space saver wheel to fit into a V70 mk3 (2012)?

Thanks,

Matthew

I've got one in my 2008 XC70 and I wouldn't be without it.

Don't forget you will also need jack and wheel brace etc.

I'm not sure on the P3 V70 but some cars have a different polystyrene boot insert if they are supplied with a pump and can of hairspray as opposed to a wheel.

E-bay is a good place to start, Volvo breakers will probably throw most of these away.... you may be able to send them a photo of your boot and ask if the donor car is the same?

Bit of a poor show from the dealer IMHO.

I have a 2013 v70, got a space saver off e bay complete with polystyrene insert and tools, it fit straight in no modification needed. the bit of polystyrene the pump and goo fits in does not need to be removed. i relocated the pump though to make it easy to get at.

I am pretty sure that all the p3 v70,xc70, xc60, etc use the same spare wheel now. The floor pan hasn't changed as far as I aware so, as Tannaton pointed out, it just depends on what polystyrene blocks (officially known as 'spacer' and 'box' I believe) you may have in the car.
My xc70 is only coming up to 3yrs old, delivered with pump and sealant kit, but as in the photos, the supplied foam blocks were prepared for holding the spare tyre, jack, etc. I bought my wheel and jack back in November and I can even carry the pump along with them (although the sealant bottle was a bit too big to lie under the wheel so no longer lives in the car).

Edit - trouble uploading for the moment, will add later.

There was a police spec bracket that held a full sized spare wheel vertically in the load area available.
Numerous police forces would not have space saver spare wheels for operational reasons and this bracket enabled the carrying of a full sized spare.

Like the full sized dip stick they are available from Volvo, though you may have to persuade your parts man to go looking.

Paul.

Thanks for your replies. Ordered the space saver spare from Volvo so that should be good. Pricing seems very cheap at £63, but maybe it is because the tyre is small?

I bought a space saver from FRF last week and felt it was a good price - similar to what you paid. The jack cost about as much again, but the wheel brace was only £10 or so. Worth getting all as a kit so it stows neatly in the boot with no rattles.

Went though purchasing one 2 weeks ago as I have heard too many stories of being stranded with a shredded tyre. I got mine here. 88 sold!
