For me, Nav is worth it although in pure money terms I agree completely with others that it's pricey (as all built-in Nav options are).

I can't be bothered fitting detachable units to power supplies and mounts each time I get in and out, I like being able to have the destinations ready to go before I get to the car, I haven't experienced any of the issues reported elsewhere and maybe it might add some value at resale (not that bothered about that to be honest).

Very individual choice though, I get why some really don't like restricted choice.

I have Volvo built in sat nav. it is OK but the updates are very expensive and really not worth it. I travel in Europe a lot and it is handy especially when there is a problem. However Tomtom work's just as well if not better and is very low cost comparing to Volvo. if it breaks just buy another. No repair costs.

Totally agree although I have not purchased yet but would never have a car without one. I do have to agree about how good tom tom's are my son has one and it's always spot on.

It's obviously very nice having the sat nav built into the car's hardware, but the tomtom software on my iPhone is excellent, cost me £40 for the whole of western europe and comes with free lifetime map updates. I just pop it in a cradle fixed to one of the dashboard vents when I get in and this means that I can quickly pull over and read any important emails that might have come through. The HD traffic service on the tomotom is also superb - the location of the back of the queue is always spot on and it always makes sensible diversions.

Out of interest, does anybody know if this new Apple Carplay thing coming with the new XC90 (and presumably other new models later) would enable me to use the tomtom iPhone app full screen in the car?
