Hi Swishrony have you tried instead of going through France. Going into Belgium, then Luxembourg back to France than Switzerland. All motorway. If you are going to purchase a Swiss vignette. Then there are no motorway tolls to pay. It is not a lot longer. The roads are very good and normal only light traffic. Luxembourg had very cheap diesel. Currently £0.65 per litre. I travel that route three or four times a year going to Italy.

You serious about that?
Google maps shows that journey going from around 9hours and 1000km up to 14 hours and 1300km!!!

EDIT ooops - missed Swishy's comment about heading to Zurich, I thought you meant to Tignes.....Zurich makes perfect sense, sorry!!

You might find the northern great circle route to Switzerland a busier road than the French Autoroutes. I think Belgium roads are narrower than the French roads - or they seemed that way to me.

We have driven to Austria the last 3 years in the summer. First year we did Belgium etc and it was a nightmare. Last 2 years stayed in France to Saarbruchen and much easier and faster. Might just be July traffic though. The Swiss vignette is v expensive if just passing through. At least Austria is cheaper to cross. Got to pay this summer just to cross from oberstdorf to the Dolomites. Police were checking last year!
