Default Strange MAF issue

Hi everyone,

I have a new problem that's driving me nuts.
My egr was dead for a while, recently i replaced it and it works as intended. After replacing it, the car started to produce pulsating power when the accelerator pedal is held in place or the cruise control is on.
After reading a bit i found a temporary solution: disconnecting the MAF.
With the MAF disconnected the car runs pretty well, it's a bit loud and draws a bit more fuel but no power issues. I tried to replace the MAF but nothing changed, does the same thing with the new one as well. A few days ago I logged the MAF readings on a highway run and the values are changing periodically, once shows a normal value then almost the double of that. Of course the boost pressure changes accordingly, due to the EGR valve opening and closing i guess.
Did anyone ever see anything like this or does anyone know what can be wrong?

Make sure the electrical connections to the MAF are clean and solid.

Thanks for the answer, i already checked the connector to the MAF and all grounds in the engine bay. What are the chances that the ECU connector is the problem? I've read that it might not be that easy to reconnect it.

Sorry forgot to mention that.
2005 S40 1.6d (D4164T) no dpf.

I don't really know if it can be related, but currently the trunk doesn't open, i was thinking about that for a while now and I think if cables that shouldn't touch each other are shorted that could mess a few things up.
