Default Park warmer functionality

Hey all,

I Recently bought a XC90 2005 model and they gave me an included full Service on the car. Im bringing it in for service next week and im currently going over all the cars features to check that everythings working ok, wich brings me to the "park warmer" (webasto?).

Its hard to test the functionality during daytime as its getting pretty hot. But we still have cold mornings, 0 - 4 degrees celsius. From what ive heard, the park warmer is suppose to heat the car up to a comfortable level. But mine doesnt, if i use it directly or with the timer when theres 3 -4 celsius outside i can hear the warmer start and run for about 2- 3 minutes then it shuts of, temperature in the car is the same as before i started it. However, if i turn on the ignition i can hear the warmer starting again helping heat up the engine to the point where its at normal temperature.

I spoke to the salesman, and he claims that this is how its supposed to work, that its not ment to heat up the car, but the engine. Is this true? This is not what ive heard elsewhere about park warmers.

Thank you for your Time.

-Christian

there is two option of software. one parking heater with timer etc...(proper webasto) and another one which only heat up engine when cold. however hardware is one and doesn't need to be changed.

I have 2 options avaliable, direct park warmer and 2 timers. Would this have been avaliable to choose if it software wasnt right?

I set the timer to 07:00 one morning, and when i got out to the car about 07:15, there was about 4 celsius degrees inside the car. If i then start the park heater directly it starts running for alittle and shuts off.

I have the parking heater/timer from factory and there were couple of cold mornings beginning of APril where i tried it out, it worked perfectly, in fact the car was too warm when I got in and there was not even condensation on the outside of the windows.

So you have to set an on AND an off time, that's the only thing I could think you may be missing?

You only have to set the timer on ON.
However when you put in the ON time make sure you press the reset button that the heater changes to ON.

You'll get a warning when you get out of the car that the parking heater timer is set.
Does this warning appear?

Yes, the timer is deffinatly on. I can even hear it start (quite alot of noise from it). Runs for about 30 seconds to a minute then shuts down. No air coming from the vents. Happens on both timer and direct start. No error messages, does however work when i start the engine if theres really cold out to help heat up.

I convinced the salesman there is something wrong with it, they will look over it on thursday when im having it servied.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Indeed, no off time - don't know WTF I was thinking of when I wrote that...

I tried mine again this week, just set the start time for 7:10, went out with the kids to the car at 7:25 and it was toasty as hell. Too warm actually...

It makes a lot of noise and of course stinks of burning diesel.
