This pump worked for me
This (cheap) pump worked for me a few years ago on a 2007 S80 D5 for exactly this problem. The thin tube goes down the oil dipstick tube and you can suck out as much oil as you need into a jar or bottle. It tends to be a messy job but it does work. The oil has to be warm before it will flow through the thin tube so run your engine for e few minutes before starting. Just be careful not to force the tube down further than it needs to go or it could get stuck in the engine. At your own risk!

I've used a hand wash bottle fitted with a length of windscreen washer tube on a few occasions, taking out up to a litre via the dipstick hole.
takes a while and a lot of pumping, but it works ! Iain

Lidl had an electric oil removal pump for £13. I bought one and may never use it but if I do have the problem, I have the solution sitting in the load area under-tray.

Pretty easy with a cool-ish engine to loosen the drain plug and let a little out before screwing it back in... That's what I did - let about half-a-litre out....

went for this in the end, as screwfix didnt have the £50 'good' ones in stock so went for this for £17 same day amazon prime
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 knowing the pipe wouldnt fit I got hold of some piping (air pipe for fish tank air bubblers) and taped it, stuck it down the dipstick and pumped - it came right up, no syphon required, used its own pressure/vaccuum/ As the oil filter is on the top of the engine ill do my own oil changes from now on and get best price on oil took a litre out (woops) and its now at just above half way mark on the dip now need to clear the error? anyone got the sequence?

3 Years ago I bought a pneumatic tyre bleeder from Eurocarparts that uses the venturi principal to suck and create a vacuum, filling the cannister, for a job and never used it. Looks like it would work well sucking the oil out of the dipstick and save ramping, removing the splashguard, having hot oil run up to my armpit and dropping the sump plug and fishing it out of the catchpan. Just wondering if it can suck it all out. I tried sucking some water out of a bowl the other week and it worked well.
Something like this:- https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Car-Brake-C...3271340&crdt=0

I have the technology to suck the oil out but would never use it for such. The gush as you remove the sump plug removes a lot of crud from the bottom of the sump pan.
What I do use my sealey vacuum machine for is brake bleeding and fluid changing. Easiest method I've ever used. Paul. |
