Question Are dealer fitted options added to the VIN list of options

I have recently had a couple of extras added to my 15 month old XC60 by the Volvo dealer, a reversing camera and a Polestar update. I am the second owner of this XC60.

As the polestar update is cross reference to the VIN number for the certificate, and as these options were added by the dealer, do they then get added to the list of options on the car referenced by the VIN number?

If they're fitted by the dealer then no, they're accessories rather than options if retro fitted.

Options are those offered by the factory.

yes ,polestar is added to the database so that any dealer can see it . Other dealer fit accessories are not ...

Clan,

Do you know if the Polestar update would appear on a VIN check for my car, as though it was an original option, or is it just a dealer database thing??

I'd expect it'd appear on the cars records so that should you take it to a different dealer for servicing it'd appear.

yes it appears on the cars records rather than in the options list . The same kind of place the dealer would find brake disc sizes , trim types etc ..

I suppose it's another reason to take it to the dealer, they know that the ECU has been updated.

They would only know if they were looking for it … for whatever reason … a normal service visit or engine warning light problem or other mechanical problem they wouldn't need to know . The calibration software would never cause a problem .

My slant on this is that the build record retrieved from a VIN enquiry will only state the additions/extras added at the time the vehicle was built - it is not a restrospective record.
If Polestar is added to any record then I would anticipate that it is simply added to an 'inter dealer' record, where the VIN (or is it simply recorded against the reg. No. at the time) can be enquired about at any main dealer.

And the insurance company can see it too.
