Default B20 cylinder head re furb'

Hi and a happy new year to y'all.
If I decide to have hardened valve seats fitted to the head will it be just the exhaust or will it be the inlet's as well? I take it that I will also need new valves and guides.

You only need to do the exhaust side. On B20's you can do both inlet and exhaust but B18's will break through into waterways on the linlet side.

I use bronze guides as they are better suited to running unleaded, valve guide wear is more of an issue than VSR

If I decide to go down the replacement polished port, head route, where would the best place to go and roughly how much would I expect to pay?

I can do them.

You looking at exhaust seats, bronze guides, new inlet and new exhaust valves?

The above is simple enough to price

You can polish the combustion chambers but not a good idea to do the ports. Are you just thinking a fairly basic porting job or are there other mods that need to be supported?

Arcturus,

I don't know anything about porting a B20 head, but I've studied the question for my MGA. If you are considering either a DIY or a professional port job on your head, you might want to take a look at this article by David Vizard.

You may also be able to find a multi-part seminar on youtube that he gave maybe 15 or 20 years ago that has some good information. Search by his name.

Seems like the best bank for the buck may be to do some porting immediately behind the valves.

Here's another interesting article on testing the head's ability to flow air.

Any idea of the weight of a B20 cylinder head?
