Default Rising cost of fuel.

I have just entered today's trip onto my spreadsheet and happened to notice that I spent exactly £350 on petrol for my V70 (following its purchase) in the latter part of 2016. So far this year, I have spent an identical amount. 18 months ago, that sum bought me 318.25 litres (Avg.£1.100/litre). This year, it has to date bought me only 295.16 litres (Avg.£1.186/litre and rising) or an increase thus far of 7.82%.

That made me ponder: if we apply that figure to transport / distribution costs, how can inflation be only 2.5 to 3.0%, as claimed by the BBC in April and January respectively?

Regards, John.
