I'm getting a combined average of 46mpg out of my trusty 1.9d. Does a lot of motorway whilst commuting to Manchester from Blackburn. Currently sitting around 195,000 miles on the odometer. Fresh oil every 5000 miles.

S40 1.8 auto petrol 1999
Makes me cry - think I get between 26-30 MPG
(as per manual calculations as I don't have the fancy MPG/temp gauge on this car.) |

Did a long drive last night from home to Stansted then to Heathrow and home again, reset the info centre thingy before I left and it says I averaged 37.2, which I thought was bloody great, I started with just over 3/4 of a tank and had covered 322 miles when I refuelled at Norwich on the way home, it took 41 litres to full which equates to 35, not at all bad when the first 100 or so miles from before I went to 2 airports was short journeys round town, I'm expecting it to halve today though as I'll be towing my 5 berth abbey today.

When mine was on the road I would get around 37mpg average on rural and main roads, and that's on the old non-vvt 1.8 Volvo job which wheezes along quite happily, and that's on 150k miles. First MOT in nearly two years next week after a load of work, including injector refurb and making all the wheels face the same way, so we'll see how it improves!

Oh I don't know, bodywork wise and in general it's ok, it has just clicked over to 180k though, gives full boost or only half boost seemingly randomly (turning it off and on sorts it) and also idles rough and tries to cut out when it feels like it (same cure, stop and start engine) and it does have rather a thirst for oil, I've done about 600 miles over the last 3 days and it's done 2l of oil :O
