Default Washer pump replacement - Bumper off job?

Need to replace the windscreen washer pump and I've seen carious things on the internet about removing the drivers wheel arch liner and/or bumper cover?

Anyone got any tips for me before I have a go at removing the pesky (Ford) pump?

Not sure what exactly you're talking about but to get the bumper off (with fog lights) takes roughly 10 minutes including raising the car and taking one of the wheels off (2 x 4 torx plus 5? plastic rivets)

It probably takes another 5 minutes to get the mudguard/arch liner off including a hand wash at the end...

Thanks for the reply, what I'm trying to do is get access to the washer pump I just don't know what I need to remove and don't really want to disturb the bumper if I don't need to. The 'internet' suggests removing both the arch liner and the front bumper - seems excessive?

Well, I'm not sure why the bumper needs to come off but as I just said if it did it wouldn't be the end of the world

The reservoir is just beneath the O/S fender and you might be able to get the pump off by only removing the wheel and the mudguard. Try to avoid to get the whole reservoir out if you can as it's quite tricky to get it back to the correct position.

You don't need to take the bumper off, or at least I didn't on my 07 V50 2.0D when I changed the washer pump a couple of weeks ago.

You'll just needed the wheel-arch liner off and then also the windscreen scuttle panel in order to remove the filler neck.

Once you've got the liner off, the reservoir is in two parts, each bolted on with two torx screws. There is also a clip on the bigger tank that you can release from inside the engine bay, or you can snap it off as I did (not knowing it was there) and that doesn't seem to be a problem!

Good luck!

On the 5 cylinder models the filler neck isn't in the scuttle panel. Just for info.

Do you reckon I can wrestle the arch liner out without removing the road wheel?

I ask because I'm a fussy arse and have never used the volvo jack (wanted to keep it original) and I don't have a trolley jack. And I don't like flimsy car jacks anyway. Typing that just screamed "buy a bloody trolley jack" didn't it!

I think you've answered your own question ;-) I have a pretty inexpensive Halfords one that's lasted me for years.

Well after removing the drivers side wheel/arch and finding nothing (I don't know why I thought is was that side) I finally got the pesky pump out so I could order a new one:

New Jack acquired £25.00 Halfords (down from £35) that'll do for me:

The reservoir:

That's the level sensor, the pump is buried behind the reservoir (great):

This bit of undertray pulls down just enough to reach the pump....:

....to reveal this looking up from underneath that undertray, the pump just pulls out and the wire feed is long enough to fetch the pump around the front of the reservoir to work on it:

And finally the Ford-Branded pump, found a new one on ebay for £14.42 delivered.
