Oil, oil filter and air filter change recommendations

Hello,
Apologies if this has been posted before, I've not been able to find anything when I search the site.

I'd like to do an oil, oil filter and air filter change on my 2003 XC70 D5. It's an engine type D5244T. Would someone be able to check I'm getting the correct bits or recommend alternative choices for the brands before I order them?

I was going to get a spare sump plug as I've read on a few forums people have trouble with the heads rounding off.

We've no diesel Volvos in No. America. Decades ago we had some.

Forgive me if the following seems pedantic.
Do you work on cars yourself at all?

Use a well fitting 6 point wrench/socket to remove the plug. Shim it with layers of kitchen aluminum foil if need be. There are some incredibly cheaply made tools out there.

If it has already been rounded off then do install the replacement. DO NOT squeeze "just one more oil change cycle" out of a rounded drain plug. Ask me how I know.

Get a good, comfortable, square approach when you go to remove the drain plug.
Reaching in blindly whilst unbalanced and fearing dirtying your clothing will cause you to flail about like a rookie.

Keep in mind that you're running a steel bolt (aka drain plug) into an aluminum pan. I don't have a torque specification as I've been doing this for a long time.
The drain plug and crush washer(aka gasket) just needs about 1/8 turn.
You'll feel the aluminum gasket deform its little bit.

All good, only thing I'd say different is an A3/B4 0w40 is a more appropriate alternative to the original 0w30 A3/B4 than 5w30, though if you want to use original spec Total still make a 0w30 A3/B4. Opie oils carry some good 0w40 (I use Fuchs in mine) use code VOLVOFB for 10% off (for the volvo owners uk facebook group (worth joining)). Its best to check the sir filter by looking at airbox.

Oh, and that castrol you linked to is bloody expensive!! Here you are; https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-69382-c...ngine-oil.aspx then 10% off that... They carry mahle filters too which are equal to Mann.

I would add a cabin air filter. You'd be surprised how many owners never replace this particular filter. It doesn't look pretty after 15 years

Agree with @AndyV70 that the parts look right, but shop around a bit more (autodoc.co.uk are actually in Germany so don't expect quick delivery).

When did you last change the fuel filter ?

I wondered this, thought xc70 have same airbox as v70 and that pre euro 4 all were rectangle? Mine is on a late '54 but its facelift...

Thanks for the comments, I wasn't sure on the air filter. Two different types were shown, one square and one with the corner cut off.

I think I need the square one based on the housing, but when I get more time I'll open it to check it.

The fuel filter was last changed when it had a major service this time last year. I'm trying to do a oil change, change of filters until I can get it to my usual independent Volvo specialist to have it's normal service. I've never worked on this car before and live in the middle of nowhere so I'm trying to get all the correct bits together before I start.

I'll try a few other places for the oil etc. to get more competitive prices.

Well its dead easy to check, the airbox top only clips on, its off in 10 sec.
If you can do your own servicing, why pay a dealer to do it? You know its done right and with quality stuff, dealers have been known to skimp here and there, not bother changing all filters, etc etc, and charge you elevated prices for the privilege...
