Today I looked at a parked 2005 V70 base, auto, 157K, Navy Blue/black: asking US$2,500. Acceptably rough condition overall, new tires. The vehicle is past due its inspection. This is way less severe than a "MOT failure" but will serve to lower the price.

A friend's son needs a "cheap car" to save his new truck. Over the past 15 years his family has noticed my 3 V70's and finally got it through their thick skulls that these vehicles are well built.

Alas, the seller tells me "he travels all the time" and won't be available until Sunday.

In this day of COVID-19 , it is not acceptable to cozy up to a guy who lives half his life in airports. I'm hoping the lad will take this ball and run with it if he so desires. Refreshing this car with him would've been fun but I'm old and the many profiles of coronavirus transmission are represented here.

Timing belt, tensioner and idler
Auxiliary belt, tensioner and idler
Replaced hydraulic and top torsion engine mounts
New discs and pads on rear
Oil and filter change
New pollen filter - worst job of the lot - we're just not meant to bend and contort like that...

Default Ouch V70 R

Ran over a bump in the road on the way to trade in my V70R at a dealer.

Sadly, the bump was probably a brake disc from a truck and it was moving too fast to dodge

If it survives I'll be keeping it for a long time till the bill is paid off

Are you sure it wasn't a broken sewer/drain cover - I ran over a piece of one sticking up from the edge of a manhole; it tore a hole in the fuel tank....not funny at all!

Pulled an electric passenger seat from the breakers (note this is a North American car, LHD). Driver's one is already electric from factory, so swapping an electric passenger one should be plug and play - same harness as the manual seat - the electric seat has two more connectors for the motors but there feed from the main harness coming from under the carpet. This swap doesn't work if the driver's seat wasn't electric from factory. These seats are not light weight but especially the upper portion is very tall and difficult to remove from the car - and the rails easily scratch the paint of the door frame. Normally I would try to remove the head rest but there are crazy difficult. Fortunately, my car is a 2003 with the seats that flip down with two small levers behind - Volvo discarded these after 2004. I also swapped a bottom cushion from an S80 which imo are the best cushions out there - bare perhaps the XC90 seats.

This is a product sold in North America, but have a read here. However, the product must be applied only during hot summer days with outside temps over 25C http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...nauf-time.html

I think that's the million dollar question

Leaving a roundabout onto a LH bend, the object flew out from under a truck.

Comparing all photos I took:-
1) It is probably a combined disc & drum for an HGV
2) There is a new mark on the front spoiler - I remember seeing it stop flat on the road so it must have been kicked up (the first big Bang) then, rattled along several times underneath.
3) The road got wet instantly - there is a thin trail to where I stopped so it may possibly be a burst pipe and/or oil cooler that sprayed oil rather than poured.

Highways Agency moved the car with the lorry following behind then, the driver offered (from his boss) to tow it 1/2 mile so their fitter can see if he can fix it.

Place your bets:-

1) I never see it again
2) I have to get it recovered to an Essex Volvo specialist
3) It gets returned with big wheels and a truck engine (Volvo ?)
4) Fixed and running nicely again

Meanwhile, I think this could be the longest and most nervous bank holiday I can remember but I'm so lucky it didn't come through the windscreen...
