Anti skid service
Hello all, new to the world of Volvo...
I have recently bought a 2.4 diesel S60, 2007 model, and I'm pleased with it. Being an older car, I decided to use a Meguiars refresh canister, which involved leaving the car idling with blowers on full and recirc for 15 mins as a can was set off. After the 15-20 mins, I got into the car to find the 'Anti Skid Service Required' warning showing. I've done some digging and a few places seem to suggest dampness in the pedal sensor (the car was quite damp as the canister was discharging) - I've restarted the car a couple of times, although I haven't driven it, and the warning remains. Any advice welcomed!!! |

Your experience with this is a bit different to mine seen as though it sounds like you weren't driving at the time. Just for info then, when I had this message the abs light came on as well (has yours?). Turned out to be an abs ring - sometimes called the reluctor ring. It's a casselated ring on the end of the half shaft that the abs sensor monitors to detect a locked up wheel. They rust over time and end up cracking which throws the sensor. If your warning message resets itself after driving for a bit then comes back on after a day or two you might want to investigate in this direction. You can actually inspect them with the wheel on - they're almost flush with the inside of the hub carrier. Have a look on Google for some images. If it is a ring get in touch - I can provide full instructions for changing them. My car was the same age as yours when they went.

Also check you don't have a loose driveshaft bolt (behind the centre boss on the wheels). This can cause the driveshaft to move in and out causing the same fault (ask me how I know...)
But as you say, could just be damp. try driving for a bit, see if the fault goes away.

I also get this message, car drives around normally no problems but if slightly more spirited driving while steering left occurs, the same anti skid service warning comes on along with the ABS light. Next time the engine is started the fault goes away once setting off and only comes back if cornering hard left.
I thought it might be the clock spring but could well be the reluctor ring, easy to change? |

Various methods - see youtube for demos
Probably best to remove driveshaft, cut the old one off, bash the new one on, replace driveshaft, test. Might want to check the ABS sensor is OK first, and just give the ring a clean in-situ, and check for cracks.

There are dozens of threads on this - it's a very common topic.
Only answer - get the codes read. The steering sensor is a common culprit. The service message is not an MOT fail so not urgent and I've never bothered to fix ours (steering angle sensor/clockspring in our case). |

Afternoon,
Agree with marcb you need the codes read. I have the same error message on startup only and not when driving. Mine is a fautly Brake Pressure Sensor - signal too low, its reading some ridiculous bar pressure with no brake applied with the live data ( there are two behind the fuse box under the bonnet ). The part is circa £280 from Volvo. I never had it done as they did not have one available in the country at the time I was in the garage. Good luck. |

Agree with all of the comments about getting the codes read, pity you’re not more local as I have Vida. I had this issue twice - the first time it was the ABS sensor rings and the second time it was a brake pressure sensor. When the sensors were faulty, I remember the traction control kept kicking in when not needed but I had no symptoms with the pressure sensor. My local specialist replaced the sensor with a second hand part nearly 2 years ago and I’ve had no more problems since then.

hello and thank you all for replies and advice.
the following day, the light was on for 20 mins, then went off. And hasn't come back on. Yet! All I can assume is dampness from putting the air conditioner refresh 'bomb' through... |
