Had another look today. The driveshaft gaitors and the intermediate bearing are all fine. The source of the squeak seems to be the driveshaft seal that fits between the driveshaft and the wheel bearing.

Noted that no sound when car in air ..have you checked suspension items ie.. Shocks bounced up/down when stationary....and inspect inner side wall of tyres for any bulging....

Hmm. Appreciated. I will have another bounce on the suspension but the noise is rotational if you know what I mean. And the tyres are brand new, fitted within 24 hours of me buying the car. But I will look!

from standing start? ie at the mac d drive through with the windows down?
it'll be the driveshaft bolts? tighten first (35nm + 90degrees) If no joy then replace with ones from partsmonster on ebay

I've had a mooch round the t'interwebs and the symptoms don't seem similar but the suggestion is appreciated. I've picked a couple up and I'll put new ones on anyway. A tenner and 20 minutes, it's worth trying.

I've fitted both. OS seemed tight enough, NS was a little easy to undo. We'll see.
Interestingly (or not) I approached it with the 13mm socket as that was what I'd read and what the replacements are but the ones I took off were 14mm. Also put a dab of paint on to observe any movement. |

Unfortunately that didn't solve it. Ah well. Looks like I'm living with it until something breaks! Made it to Norfolk on holiday at least. An extremely spacious and comfortable family wagon. Exactly as intended.

How about the actual wheel bearings maybe a bit dry. Might only notice it when the suspension is under load ie when the car is on the ground.
