Robert, I somehow missed your reply to my enquiry. At least we are back to knobs!
Checking on how big the 1800 one is I removed one from a remote I have "in store". Was interested to find that it didn't have a lock nut on it although I did think that the tube actually went up inside the knob. Instead it had an extension adaptor which screwed into the knob. Very tight and I haven't tried to remove it. It was this that was screwed onto the lever. Extension makes the knob 1" longer. Interesting, but more so when I realised that this was an extension that I removed from a Ruddspeed Amazon. The same one that had the Ruddspeed dash with no instruments that I posted onto the Ruddspeed site. When the early remote is fitted to an Amazon the lever is a bit short and does sit down between the seats a bit so I guess that Rudds added this to their conversions to raise it and also increase the leverage. For someone used to the standard long lever, maybe a good thing. I've never seen this mentioned anywhere and it's not noted on the Rudd's list.

Not for sale!

From the list
Remote control gear change unit
Suitable for B18 Saloon and Estate. Complete to fit in place of standard long lever, with gearbox tunnel panel. £24 10s. Fitting £9 10s.

Ah. Those were the days! I have the tunnel panel too. Very crude and was fitted with self tappers. Probably had a run of Sealer round it.
