Default Thinking of detailing my 1800S - any advice

Hi all,
Xmas is round the corner and Santa is thinking of bringing me a DA polisher to work on my car.

My car was painted black during the late 1990's. The paint is showing its age with lots of swirls (as I've just lfound out from http://www.detailingworld.co.uk) probably caused by using a sponge and not a proper mitt. I want to remove the swirls with a DA polisher.

Has anybody got any experience using a DA polisher. What size pad is best to tackle the curves on my 1800S. Should I start with a gentle pad and soft compound. Any views on which DA polisher is best?

Thanks in advance.

Hi
Detailing World was indeed my first port of call, but with limited responses to my question:-

However DW is a great site with loads of resources with much useful advice.
Well worth a visit.

I ending up buying a 5" DAS-5 Pro, with a extra 3.5" backing plate to take a 4" spot pad to tackle smaller areas.

Also tried the snow foam cleaning approach today, which if nothing else is great fun.

I'll let you all know how I get on with the detailing after Xmas.

Would be interested to know how you get on. Not sure that I've got the patience for it but would like to give it a go.
