MOT test latest info
This is the latest info regarding the MOT on vehicles over 40 years.
It sets out what owners will have to do Hope it helps https://www.gov.uk/government/upload...e-guidance.pdf The MOT changes dramatically on 20th May to comply with the EU road worthiness directive. It will be a significant change for Testers and we have all been sent a draft of the new manual. Although new emissions regs come into force in February the bulk of the changes will take place with the introduction of the manual. My advice is if you have a car that needs a test (Classic or not) in May or June get it done early as it will take time for testers to get used to the raft of changes. PLEASE note that once introduced the tester will have no discretion on if a current advisory (a Minor under new rules) is placed on record.

I agree there are legitimate concerns about the potential abuse of these new rules, but has anyone seen any evidence of problems since the MOT exempt status was given to pre 1960 vehicles over 5yrs ago? Hopefully DVLA has looked at this and used it as a trial maybe.

There already are, the year 2015-16 saw nearly 28 million vehicles tested 13% failed on suspension issues,10% failed on braking issues, overall the final failure rate was 27% so around 8 million. Of those statistics 1830 accidents in that time were caused by unroadworthy vehicles. Those that want to drive a roadworthy car, classic or otherwise will continue to do so, those that don't won't....
