Default MOT with engine management warning light on

A friend of mine (genuinely not me lol) has just had their car pass it's mot.

Great. Except I happen to know their engine warning light stays on.

I thought this was an automatic fail, even if the emissions passed.

Does anyone know for sure where things stand on this point?

I'm asking partly out of interest, but also partly because I'm not certain, but I suspect my car might have been MOT'ed there too.

100% not a fail presently, work at an mot testing station.

Full mot manual is online Google it.

Changes on the way and maybe a fail soon, again draft mot manual is online.

I understood it depends on the nature of the warning light. However, some MOT testers have been known to interpret the rules differently.
