It does seem as though there is a difference between the expectations of different marque owners. On this forum owners complain bitterly about Volvo as a company and their engineering. On the Land Rover forums they post about EGR problem and get members tell them how to change it themselves or how much it will cost at the dealers to fix, but no one comments about the design abilities or company as such.

Has always been slightly puzzling the different expectations there are.

I had a Merc of the rust era and when I posted about that the answer was yes you just have to spend a lot of time fighting the rust.

It's Volvo's body engineering that has always bought me back to them at the end of the day and their rectification of problems with components as well of course.

Had a second replacement EGR valve fitted yesterday. All appears fine - no change to engine response etc. Not seeing the Check Engine light is taking a bit of getting used to though

The turtle did appear twice whilst I was waiting for the appointment (the only times I have ever seen it), but he (?) didn't hang around and there was no apparent power loss despite the warning to the contrary.

Warning low coolant light has just come on, a few weeks after the EGR valve was changed. From memory I think this has happened to others who have had this done. Am I correct?

I don't keep any coolant so I am going to see if I can liberate some from a nearby back street mecanic nearby. I presume if it happens more than once it is a problem. Thoughts?

It has happened before, yes - it's because the coolant needs to be part-drained to fit the new cooler. Check the reservoir, if there is still some coolant in there I would just top-up with deionised water, it will not dilute the coolant THAT much ...

And if it happens again after topping up, call Volvo Assist

Probably some air trapped in the system after the coolant being drained for the EGR change that's worked it's way out.

Tut tut tut,

Guessing some dealers still arn't using the vacuum tool to bleed cooling system then,

Did my first rework on tuesday for a special case, 4th cooler in 25k

Not to bad really takes abit longer but hopefully it will sort the issue

This does show that the EGR problem will happen even on cars that do regular long drives / high miles.
