Wiring Issue on PV 544

I have just replaced the speedo on my 544 . The wiring under the dash whilst being fairly recent was worryingly full of scotch locks and several wires crudely joined with plastic connectors.
The only wires I had disconnected were those on the back of the fuel gauge and the bulb holders but now on reassembly the side lights are on permanently .
Im sure its a simple fix but thought maybe Id missed something . Originally there were 4 red wires connected to one side of the fuel gauge and one brownish wire connected to the other side as I recall . Can anyone confirm this is correct please ?

One black and three red. Black to tank,
