Possible leak from windscreen

Today I have cut out a square of carpet and removed the wet soundproofing to dry out. I will get a cheap car mat and rig up a patch of the car mat with the soundproofing stuck to it, so I can remove it each time it gets wet.

I have a dehumidifying bean bag thingy which is now in the car.

Tomorrow, I will get lots of kitchen towel and soak the car with the hose pipe, it needs a wash anyway.

hi my floor showed traces of where the water was getting in i had to remove the drivers side carpets sound proofing and underlay got every thing completely dry and stopped the leak thinking thats your best option in the long term .

My problem is any work I do on the car, is in the communal car park. We don't have driveway, let alone a garage. Small projects and simple fixes are also my skill limit.

It is predicted to be about 1 degrees tomorrow, so I think washing is out of the question.

Yeah, but what about the car?

Joking aside, i feel your grief with that, at least i have a garage but it's remote from my home with no power, nowhere to store tools and err, oh yeah, i can't get a car in there at the moment as it became a dumping ground for various bits!
Thankfully getting round to sorting it now though so hopefully get a car in there soon!

hi i too have no garage but have a private drive by the house over the year i get the jobs all done that i can do myself . bit chilly but sunny yesterday but managed to change auto oil . one of 3 changes and changed front brake pads and removed and cleaned rear brake pads so had a good day on car .
the front carpet is a bit tricky to get back in but just take your time and remember where all the bits of trim go back !

Got the panel off and have laid more kitchen roll paper to try and trace the source.

At the moment I cannot tell if the carpet higher up is damp, or just cold, it is only just above freezing.

if floor has been wet for a log time i think carpet needs to be removed and dried out properly and check for any rust damage under carpet as I've seen somewhere rust damage on some 940s

From the part I have cut out, I can reach under the carpet and it is just one section, which was damp. I can now remove it and dry it and put it back as I continue to find the leak.

To take the entire carpet would mean finding a garage prepared to do that and dry it out.

Once you have got the carpets/underlay out of the way a little trick used by some is to 'poof' some talc all around the foot well and firewall and it will show up trace marks where the water is coming from

Took the wife to the car wash, hosed the car as she filmed inside the foot well and nothing. No sign of anything. So all the kitchen towel and watching finds no trace of water coming in and running down. But the patch of lining where my heal rests is still damp, as is the bit of underlay just next to the door. The underlay higher up near the bottom of the door (A) pillar is dry, as is the under lay coming from under the seat and the centre console.

On getting home I did notice, on opening the door that the bottom of the door pillar on the outside around the lower hinge was wet. But it is solid metal and no obvious way in for water. It was also a bit damp round a hole where the wires go through the door pillar to get to the driver's door. But again, when the door is closed, that will be sealed and covered from the jet wash. I presume a bit of water gets in the gap between the door and pillar and just sits.

It as if the car has rising damp and so a photo of underneath. I found this drain hole and if I put my finger into it, it is wet.



The car was undersealed after I got it, it was given a good bill of health and there is no damage in that area. I think, unless someone knows for sure, the next step is book into a garage and get them to strip out the rest of the carpet, underlay etc and see if they can find it.
