New MOT rules
Hey there, how's it going on folks.
I assume most of you already know about the upcoming changes in MOT testst which will be introduced in May. My question is,should i and many other people be worried about DPF test if it's been removed because now they will be looking for any kind of smoke going out from your exhaust and that might be a problem. Thank you. |

I for one will be looking forward to there being a few less diesel vehicles producing unnecessary pollution from May this year. And if a few more cars with badly fitted aftermarket HID kits are consigned to the great Seat Leon / Citroen Saxo graveyard, then that's an added bonus.
So yes, be afraid - very afraid

Fix your car properly.
Don't remove DPFs. What more could you want?

People who gut DFP then boast about it. People who fit Aftermarket HID kits. People who fit fart cannon exhausts (presumably makes them more likely to mate). People who do all of the above then drive while wearing a burberry cap backwards. |

To the best of my knowledge any signs of tinkering with DPF, that is any weld marks, removal etc, will give you an instant fail.
It stands as: Any car that had factory fitted DPF must have it fitted during MIT test. Otherwise its a fail. Any car that has DPF fitted and emits any visible smoke is a fail. Not much about cars that left factories WITHOUT DPF though.. Now try to convince your MOT tester that you're in that last category. I can see oncoming increase in both demand and price of DPF refitting service . Hurry.

Just remember to get the engine hot before a MOT. Few laps of the local motorway or linkway to give it a good clear out/ warm up.
Also did a bit of digging and found this site https://www.rac.co.uk/forum/showthre...-From-May-2018 There's a link (under the first yellow section) which downloads the new rule book, section 8 is all about emissions. Quite a bit of info on it so happy reading. My understanding was any signs of altering /dpf removal - fail, outside manufacturer figures -fail.
