Recommend me a jack
Looking for a decent jack and stand for changing wheels over needs to lift xc60
Looking at 2/3 tonne units what’s good for occasional use? Not to large or heavy will be using on block paved drive not sure if trolley or bottle will be better? |

Bottle jacks are smaller, and can lift heavier weight, but can only operate vertically. This means that as you lift the car and it begins to tip to an angle, the jack can become dangerously unstable. Trolley jacks are huge, heavy and cumbersome, especially if they have any decent amount of lift, although for changing a wheel a small one will do.

Arcan 2000kg aluminium trolley jack is lightweight and reliable. Costco did sell them but I notice they’re out of stock at the moment

Try screwfix, they do a 2ton trolley jack, axle stands and a pair of wheel chocks. All for the princely sum of £59.99 A 2 ton jack will have no problems lifting your motor.

Before buying a trolley jack make sure there is enough lift,I bought one that fitted underneath my V90 OK,but there was not enough lift to get the wheels clear of the floor. In the end I had to buy one that would not go under the car until driven onto a plank of wood.

Please take care with selection - I had a Silverline branded one collapse when one of the lifting arms bent without warning (and yes, a straight lift on my S60, on firm level tarmac. Scary in the extreme):
https://www.toolstation.com/shop/p12...waAj0SEALw_wcB Fortunately, I was being safety conscious after reading very recently about a jack collapse on another forum, so no personal harm done. IMHO this and its rebadged variants are not up to the job - so much so that I got Trading Standards involved. |

I got a Clarke 3 ton trolly jack from machine mart for £70. Really heavily Built ideal for xc90 ect. Use it in my transporter and will easily lift that off the ground.

Cheap jacks are cheap for a reason. Better spending a few more quid on a known make and save in the longer term.
These are a few of my jacks, left to right Epco 3 tonne jack around 50 years old and works perfectly but almost as heavy as what it can lift Arcan (Costco) 2000kg aluminium jack. light enough to move around and lift into the boot of the car if required Cheap as chips trolley jack only used for lightweight trailer jacking 20 Tonne Scania bottle jack, lifts anything I will ever need but has its restrictions As for axle stands, again the cheaper ones are just not worth it, I've seen a few buckle and break and they can cause a lot of damage...not only to the car Caveat emptor
