Default Transmission performance low

So we gave Volvo another chance after the ****show that was my xc90 and unbelievably three weeks into owning our 2012 v60 d3 with less than 60k on the clock we have an error message flash up.

It said Transmission Performance Low. My wife was driving and said the car still drove fine. When I got home the message had cleared and didn’t come back when I drove it. I gave it a sound thrashing trying to invoke the message to come back but it didnt and the transmission is silky smooth.

I’m not going to book it into volvo unless the message comes back as I dont want to spend £100 to get “no fault found”.

However, in Two weeks my wife will be heading off on a 1500 mile round trip to visit her god parents so I need to have faith in the car.

Anyone know of any common problems to be aware of? If we get burned on this car my faith in the brand is going to be damaged beyond repair :-(

You need to get the codes read or it's just guesswork otherwise.

Did you not get a warranty with the car?

Yep, it has a 3 month warranty but we drove a long way to get it because it ticked all the boxes for us. It would be a real pain to have to take it back but worse still, if it fails while we are in Kintyre it will be no end of hassle!

This warning came up again yesterday, the car is in with Volvo today so hopefully we will get some answers. The dealer we got it from has said they will take care of any problems but as they are 2 hrs away we have taken it to a local franchise for diagnosis. I have read reports that sometimes these gearboxes need a fluid change and the software adaptations reset due to the way the system compensates for aging fluid.

I'll guess we'll see soon enough!

So the dealer we bought the car from couldn't be more helpful and I'd highly recommend them, they are independent not a Volvo franchise.

Our local Volvo dealer reported that the car needs a software update which should resolve the issue. However the TCM will not accept the update so it needs to be replaced. The cost for this is £850 including parts/labour. The dealer we purchased the car from has already Authorised Volvo to carry out this work at his expense (hopefully he could negotiate a discount).

The scary part is however, that Volvo have warned that the new TCM may highlight further problems with the gearbox which have not been logged. Anyway, we'll find out on Friday and the we have been promised that all the problems/costs will be taken care of!

Hi I wonder if you managed to resolve your issue of the transmission.
My v60 showed the same fault for a brief interval then went away. I have 3 months warranty on the car with 2 months left so I am anxious to know what your outcome was.

Thanks
