as to be expected my 240 makes a bit o' noise. as i accelerate past 50mph or simply give her gas, there is a rattling that sounds like something is shaking. as i reach a certain speed, she starts to pitter out, and the sound gets louder. i am afraid to give it more gas so i lose momentum. i have searched the engine over and over but nothing looks wrong or out of place. any input?

Will it do it with the car stationary, as you rev the engine? It might be more apparent where the noise is coming from.
My thoughts are; pinking, worn or dry cambelt tensioner pulley, worn or stretched timing belt, worn camshaft bearings or cam followers.
Is it definitely from the engine? Propshaft, central prop bearing?
Something else loose, vibrating at a critical speed? I once had a horn mounting bracket which twanged at certain speeds.

Hope some of these might help.
Best wishes,
Cliff Pope
