I blanked my 2002 S60 D5 about 30,000 miles ago and have not had an error or any issues since. Engine temperature has stayed rock solid the whole time.

It runs great although as with a 13 year old car with 160,000 miles on the clock I'm sure that there will be niggles upcoming!

If your needle strays past halfway on a Volvo, you have a problem.
Mine barely hits 1/4 even after 800 miles of high speed heavily laden driving.

Your thermostat is almost certainly sticking open then or your coolant temp sensor is faulty (less likely).
One way or another, something's up.

To revive an old thread and keep you updated....

Car is now owned by my father and just coming up to 170,000 miles and still no issues with blanked EGR. The engine has stayed so much cleaner, just wished i could blank off the EGR on my s60 D3 now!

Havent seen this thread before.

My EGR was blanked AND programmed out when I had the car remapped in January.

Zero probs with temps, economy fine, the only downside is that if it hasnt been 'booted' in a while, it will smoke a bit on wide open throttle until it 'clears its throat' :0
