850 Radio Code and other issues
Hi all
I would just like to say that today I became the proud owner of a Volvo 850 GLT 2.5 20v and I love it!!! It has all the extras like half leather, heated seats and mirrors etc. It only cost me £370 and I'm chuffed to bits, it has 180,000 miles but sounds like new. Here are some issues I have though:- 1. I need a radio code as the guy I bought it from said it had been entered incorrectly and now needs to be left switched on for 2 hours and then I can enter a code The serial number: V0 0690 VO 119025C Model: SC805 2. I need the passenger door exterior bump strip trim and the little bit on the front wing near the wheel arch Any ideas where I can get this from in North London? 3. I need a service as the service warning light keeps coming on Ideally I would like a mechanic who is reasonable and is used to working on Volvos - any recommendations for someone in North London, preferably, Wood Green, Palmers Green, Enfield area and an idea of how much a service should cost would be useful Thanks, I look forward to your help and being part of the volvo forum. If the radio is the original unit then you should be able to get the correct code from a Volvo dealer. Normally just the reg no of the car will be required. Some do this as a free service (a few seconds on the computer to look it up) but some will charge £10.00 for the 'service'. If you already have the correct code but it has been entered incorrectly (three times??) you may have to leave the unit switched on for up to 24 hours before the internal radio system will reset ready for a new attempt.
The other requirements for North London I will need to leave to those more local.

Thanks for that, I was beginning to give up hope that I'd get a reply. Anyhow, I took it to my local, 'friendly' dealer and was promptly charged £10 + vat which was a bit galling.
It's now waiting the prescribed 2.5 hours to reset the code with the ignition on, I'll see how I get on with the code they gave me. I just need to find a cheaper mechanic as they quoted me £190 + vat for a service and £85 + vat for the small door trim. Anyhow, thanks for getting back to. Cheers Jonathan |

Try RUFE (http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=57125) for genuine parts - he works for a main dealership and offers us parts at trade prices. Quite often he is cheaper than pattern parts.
Regarding a good mechanic, try http://kalmar-union.com - Don is the boss there and he is widely regarded as one of the best Volvo specialists in the country.

When we bought our V70, I called Volvo Customer Service to get the radio code.

Radio "OFF" code
I had a "OFF" message on my radio (retro fitting to older Volvo radio/cassette) and entered wrong code.
Checked all the usual post on the internet about putting ignition on for around 2 hours then a guy in the USA said remove fuse number 7 ( 20 amp radio) and refit to clear the "off" message. I put the ignition to position 1, turned on the radio..message "OFF" displayed, then removed fuse and replaced it, got back in the car and "code" was displayed, entered 4 digits and radio works. Worth trying. |
