Default Tyre pressure sensors

Hi, I have just found out that the tyre pressure diagram showing 4 green dots if the pressures are ok does not work as I thouight. I will explain.

120 miles into a 140 mile trip a message came up in the display to say the tyre pressures needed attention. I pulled over at the first chance I got to view the tyres suspecting I had a pucture but all the tyres looked ok so I continude my trip.

Next morning I got out my tyre pump complete with gauge and checked the tyres and each one read 30/31 psi.
When the car was new in March 2019 I had made all the tyres 38psi for best economy running. I was under the impression that if the tyres showed a green dot they were ok and did not require any air, this seems to be not the case.

I would appear that somewhere between March and the end of November this year I have been running on under inflated tyres.

So in conclusion it would appear that it is still the case that tyres should be checked at regular intervals and not to rely on the car status tyre check.

My previous car showed the pressure in each tyre and seemed to be a better system than the one Volvo use.

I hope this infomation will be of use to others.

Pete, out of interest did you store the new pressures when you adjusted them to 38psi.

Mine is a MY16 car so has direct TPMS with a sensor in each wheel. I have an exact readout of each tyre in the display.

Well, what can I say... You haven't checked the tires pressure since March!?
Is it so difficult to check them every month?
They've been losing pressure equally and that's why the system didn't catch it. There should be difference in the rotation of the tires for the system to be able to warn you.

The current system used by Volvo only indicates when a tyre pressure is TOO Low not simply low. Our previous car had individual pressures shown, which whilst accurate can be more costly to maintain as a car ages. As per previous post it has to be re-calibrated following each change of tyre pressure.

It sounds as though you did not calibrate the tpms after you increased the pressures to 38psi, this would result in the system not giving a warning until the pressures were below the original calibrated lower setting.

Hi, this is exactly the point I was trying to make. My understanding was that if the tyre display showed 4 green dots, no action needed to be taken. This obviously is not the case and I was making this point to warn others.

Get the Idea?

Hi Mike, yes I know about storing the values when the pressures are reset, and yes I did store the adjusted values back in March.
I have found it takes about 4 miles of driving for the tyre display circle to stop revolving and the 4 green dot display to return.

Yes. It displays the pressure in each tyre on the screen.
