Historically going back to the 1960's Volvo have never used general components off the manufacturers shelf, they always specify to the manufacturer of these components exactly what they want and the specifications they want. usually their parts are unique to Volvo even if they fit some other cars.

such parts are:
Brake discs
Brake pads,
Wiper blades,
Distributor caps ,
HT Leads
suspension dampers,
Bulbs
Fan Belts
Cam belts
Aux belts
Upholstery materials
Paint
Clutches
alternators
Water pumps.
Ball bearing races
Carpets
Rubber mats
rubber door seals
Glass
Drive shafts
Pistons
Valves
Coolant
Radiators
Just about everything else too.
even tyres on later models.
