Default Brake fluid loss, V70.

Hi all. My 2006 diesel auto V70 recently flashed up an urgent, low brake fluid message. I topped it up with dot 4. It seemed to take a lot. Was fine for 90 miles or so, then started flashing up again. Never had this before. Could it be a leak? Its done 177k miles. Thanks all.

Thanks all. Is there a particular area that a leak would be likely that anyone knows of? Thanks.

Surely you must feal something isn’t right in the brake pedal. Not any common areas for P2 cars to loose fluid that I know of but if you have someone in the car with the engine running and pumping the brake pedal you will soon see it dripping on the floor. Could be a brake hose that’s got damaged or a pipe has rotted.

No, thats the odd thing; there isnt a noticable difference in the feel of the pedal...maybe it's just been spongey for a while, and I've become used to it.

Not on a V70 and not sure if it would happen but worth checking

I’ve seen a master cylinder leak fluid into the brake servo, therefore doesn’t show any external leakage until a large amount of fluid has been consumed and all the fluid is sitting inside the servo. Worth checking inside the servo…

Thanks for that. Just managed to find the leak. Seems to be coming from the driver's side wheel, but I am away from home with no tools, so cant get the wheel off for a propper look. Will have to get it into a garage tomorrow. Thanks all.
